KRNAP – KPN these are the official abbreviations of both national parks that together cover an area of about 425 km2 (KRNAP 370 and KPN 55). In 1986 the buffer zone of an additional 184 km2 of area around the Park of the Krkonoše Mts. was declared. The Administrations of both national parks with their seats in Vrchlabí and Jelenia Góra-Sobieszów were authorized to take over the responsibility for the fate of the wildlife and landscape in the Krkonoše Mts.

Ski resort Rokytnice nad Jizerou

Skiers in ski resorts of Rokytnice nad Jizerou can use approximately thirty ski-lifts and two four-seater chairlifts. Lysá hora cableway is 2,198 meters long and it is the longest 4-seater chairlift in the Czech Republic.
The second cableway, Horní Domky, besides winter secures also summer operation with the possibility of transporting bicycles free of charge.

Rokytnice nad Jizerou

Rokytnice nad Jizerou is one of the places of the Giant Mountains that was already settled in the 16th century. Our municipality was founded around the year 1574. It was named after the Huťský stream. It was originally called "Rokytnice" after the adjective "rokytná", which means stream flowing among willows (a willow was called "rokyta"). Also, an old evangelic name of the municipality, which became a sanctuary for many Protestants, is recorded – Kalich (meaning "Chalice").
